FIDH voices 'deep concern' over 'arbitrary detention' of Ould Sidi Mouloud

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), a group of several international human rights NGOs, voiced, on Thursday, its "deep concern" over the "arbitrary detention" of Mustafa Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud by the polisario's militiamen.

In an article published on its website, FIDH said it is "concerned" that the arrest and persecution of Ould Sidi Mouloud "are only aiming to sanction his right to the freedom of opinion and speech".

"Ould Sidi Mouloud, chief inspector of the polisario’s police and member of its leadership, was arrested and taken to an undisclosed location by the polisario on September 21, 2010, while he was attempting to join his family in the camps of Tindouf, in Algeria", underlined FIDH.

Recalling that Ould Sidi Mouloud had voiced support for Morocco's initiative to grant autonomy to its southern provinces and intention to defend this proposal once he returns to Tindouf (southwestern Algeria), FIDH called on the polisario to respect the universal principles of human rights, disclose the whereabouts of Ould Sidi Mouloud and to secure his right to life and physical integrity.
