PARLACEN calls to avoid anything that is likely to undermine States territorial integrity and ...

The vice president of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), Juan Pablo Placido, said Monday that the regional institution advocates integration and calls to avoid anything that is likely to undermine the territorial integrity of states and their sovereignty and respect the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.

Mr. Placido, who received the Ambassador of Morocco in Santo Domingo, Ibrahim Hussein Moussa, at the headquarters of the representation of the PARLACEN in the Dominican capital, seized this opportunity to reiterate the position of his country, the Dominican Republic, in favor of the autonomy plan for the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty, as a political solution to the Sahara issue under the aegis of the United Nations.

During this interview, Mr. Placido, who represents his country alongside 20 other MPs within Parliament, welcomed the interest shown by Morocco in cooperation with the countries of the Caribbean and Latin America, who have repeatedly expressed their solidarity and support to the Kingdom and headed its by territorial integrity.

For its part, the Moroccan ambassador gave a historical overview of the different steps and subsequent developments in the Sahara issue, stating that Algeria, through its full support to the Polisario, undermines the rights of Morocco and exploits this artificial conflict to satisfy its hegemonic vision in the region.

Ibrahim Moussa also hailed the positive role played by the Dominican Republic to support the Moroccan Sahara issue at international fora.

The Moroccan diplomat also highlighted the distinguished relations between the two countries and their strategic positioning, since Morocco is the gateway to the Dominican Republic's entry to the Arab world and the African continent, while the Dominican Republic is an access point to the Caribbean and Latin America.

Morocco, which attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with the Caribbean and Latin America, is an observer member in several organizations and regional and continental bodies in Latin America and the Caribbean, including the Organization of States of America, the Ibero-American Summit, Association of Caribbean States, Andean Parliament and Pacific Alliance.

PARLACEN, based in Guatemala City, consists of parliaments of Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic, in addition to Mexico as an observer member.
