Proverbs are the mirror that reflects the collective imagination of peoples, their culture, their conception of human and material relationships, their spiritual and political concerns and synthesize their experiences, happy or tragic stages of their history, creativity of their wise men and the memory of the epics of their heroes.
The Hassani society, like the other Arab societies, has produced a multitude of popular proverbs which are culturally specific. These proverbs are characterized by their relevance and the synthesis of economic, social and cultural life in the Sahara.
These proverbs treat a wide variety of topics. These include ethics that deal with human relations, quality of behavior in society, wisdom that reflects lessons from the experiences of life, advice about child rearing, morals and rules of propriety.
