Galiat Bouchayba is served at breakfast. It acts as a cure against gastric diseases, including large intestine aches.
This meal is prepared after drying barley flour grains in a special bowl with a quantity of clean sand grains.
When barley grains are cooked, they take a dark red color. They are removed and separated from sand grains by using a sieve, then they are presented in the main dish with another one containing butter or fat that Sahrawis call Dahn.
