Thereafter, the family of the would-be bridegroom meets with the family of the intended bride, read the Fatiha (the Opening Chapter of the Quran) together and set a date for the wedding, after they have enjoyed a special banquet which is attended by the elders and notables of the tribes or of the two tribes.

 

It is noticeable that the Sahraoui family exercises great influence on the process of selecting the future bride. And often, the choice is made on the basis of tribal considerations, given the major role played by marriage in fostering family and tribal ties.
