Morocco's Autonomy Plan For Sahara 'Good Basis For Negotiation' To Move Forward, French minister

Morocco's autonomy plan is "a good basis for negotiation" to make headway on the Sahara issue which constitutes "an obstacle to Maghreb integration since 35 years," Pierre Lellouche, French secretary of state in charge of European affairs has said.

Lellouche underlined, in a interview with the international magazine "Jeune Afrique" published in its latest issue, the progress achieved by Morocco in the area of human rights.

Speaking of the advanced status granted by the European Union to Morocco, Lellouche said Europe is ready, as part of its neighbourliness policy, to help the kingdom get closer to it towards “a large partnership zone”.

On the Union for the Mediterranean, he said he is convinced that “its establishment is irreversible” despite the current obstacles due in particular to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
